Thank a Nurse Day!
“As a nurse we have the opportunity to heal the mind, soul, heart, and body of our patients. They may forget your name, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” —Maya Angelou
On Thank a Nurse Day, and every day, we take a moment to remember the incredible sacrifice that nurses make every day. Did you know that nursing is the largest healthcare profession? According to The American Association of Colleges of Nursing, we are lucky enough to have almost 4.2 million registered nurses across the country that work in nursing homes, emergency rooms, and in all other capacities.
Nurses are the heartbeat of the medical field, handling many aspects of care and healing across a vast number of specialties. Their duties include coordinating and providing patient care, educating patients and the public, and giving their patients and their families emotional support to get through a very challenging time in their lives. March 19th is Certified Nurses Day, a day to give recognition to this very special group of professionals who truly raise the standard of care.
Wonder why March 19th is the day that we celebrate this noble and ever-evolving profession? It is the birthday of Dr. Margretta Madden Styles, RN, EdD, FAAN, who was an icon in the field of certification for nurses, setting the standard for credentialing to validate expertise in the 1970s.
It is hard to imagine a life that has not been touched by the compassion of a nurse. Take a moment to write a note of thanks or make a phone call to show your appreciation for their amazing work. Kind words of gratitude can really boost someone’s spirits!
Today and every day, CarePatrol honors the incredible work of nurses who change our lives, give us hope, and provide comfort for the ones we love.
