Father’s Day – Celebrating Favorite Dads Throughout History

Dads are amazing. They teach us strength, make us laugh and cheer us on, no matter what we do. In honor of Father’s Day, let’s take this opportunity to look back at the favorite dads who have made their impact on our lives, entertained us or just changed the way we look at the role of fathers in society.
Andy Taylor: The patriarch from The Andy Griffith Show, he teaches his son Opie with kindness and humor.
Philip Banks: As the dad of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, this character was a successful judge and lawyer who was devoted to his own children as well as adopting his nephew when he needed a place to stay.
Charles Darwin: You may not know that this man known for his contributions to evolutionary biology was a devoted father to 10 children. He was instrumental in raising and educating them.
Theodore Roosevelt Sr.: A man who truly adored kids, Roosevelt stood for courage, tenderness and unselfishness to his family.
Carl Winslow: The dad on the hit tv show “Family Matters” was played by Reginald VelJohnson. This loving father was also a Chicago police officer and endured the shenanigans of Steve Urkel for nine seasons!
Jack Byrnes: He may be overprotective but the dad from “Meet the Parents” is powered by love and portrayed by Robert DeNiro. His methods may be extreme but his love for his daughter is sincere.
Howard Cunningham: The kind dad of the sitcom Happy Days, he was a wise business owner who loved his family and kids.
Daniel Hilliard: Portrayed by Robin Williams, this character, also known as Mrs. Doubtfire, went to any length to spend time with his kids, including dressing as a woman.
Clark Griswold: The dad from the “National Lampoon” films is not a perfect dad but his energy and optimism make him a relatable figure.
Mason Evans Sr.: Filmed over a period of 12 years, the film “Boyhood” shows the dynamics of a dad and son. Ethan Hawke plays this likable dad with heart.
