Celebrating Spring, Health and Wellness: Wellderly Week 2022
The beginning of Spring is nature’s way of hitting the restart button and surprising us with new scenery. For many, this is a time of updating spaces, attitudes and outlooks on life. For older adults, Wellderly Week provides an opportunity to enjoy their free time and redefine “acting your age.”
Celebrated March 21-25, Wellderly Week encourages seniors to pursue activities that bring them joy. The celebration reminds us of the importance of valuing our health and the time we have to be active and enjoy different activities.
When thinking about senior care and senior care solutions, socialization and physical activity make an important part of a care community. Even before families and individuals need to consider senior care solutions, there are many ways for older adults to be active and enjoy the scenery:
- Travel to places you haven’t been before. Visit your grandchildren or other family members that are close to you.
- Take a walk around the neighborhood, park or even the mall. Physical activity is always a great way to be entertained and fit.
- Read a book, or a few. Whether you like fictional stories or books based on real-life events, reading can help you immerse yourself in a different space. Reading is a transformative activity that is not only entertaining but also helps with your cognitive health.
Host an event. Spring is a great time for an outdoor event with friends and neighbors. Socializing also brings positivity and energy to a home.
These different activities to celebrate elder wellness can take place year-round. However, if it is time to transition to senior care, consider reading our handout, “10 Tips When Helping Senior Move into Senior Housing.” Download it here. [Link to handout]
